Terms & Conditions
1. Nature of Therapy
Psychotherapy provides a confidential space to explore emotional, psychological, and relational difficulties. It is a collaborative process, and outcomes cannot be guaranteed. The pace and focus of sessions will be agreed upon together and reviewed as therapy progresses. Sessions are offered on an agreed basis and are not intended to replace medical or psychiatric care where such care is required.
2. Confidentiality
All sessions are treated as confidential in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework. Information shared in therapy will not be disclosed to third parties without your consent, except in circumstances where there is a serious risk of harm to you or others, disclosure is required by law, or safeguarding concerns involve a child or vulnerable adult. Wherever possible, confidentiality will be discussed with you before any disclosure is made.
3. Crisis and Emergency Support
Therapy sessions are provided by appointment only and do not constitute a crisis or emergency service. If you feel at risk of harming yourself, are experiencing suicidal thoughts, or are in immediate distress, you agree to seek urgent support outside of therapy sessions. This may include contacting 999, attending your nearest Accident & Emergency (A&E) department, contacting Samaritans on 116 123, or speaking with your GP. If you are outside the UK, you are advised to contact local emergency services or a recognised crisis support organisation in your country.
4. Attendance, Cancellations, and Fees
Sessions are booked in advance and are payable either directly by the client or via approved private medical insurance or Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) providers, where applicable. A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled with less notice may be charged in full unless otherwise agreed. Fees and payment arrangements will be discussed and agreed prior to the start of therapy.
5. Private Medical Insurance & EAPs
If therapy is funded through private medical insurance or an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), it is the client’s responsibility to obtain prior authorisation and confirm the number of sessions approved. Any sessions not covered by the insurer remain the client’s responsibility.
6. Online Therapy
Online sessions are conducted via a secure platform. While care is taken to maintain confidentiality, online therapy carries inherent risks related to technology and internet security. Clients are responsible for ensuring they have a private, suitable space for sessions. Online therapy may not be appropriate for all clients or situations, particularly in times of crisis.
7. Data Protection (GDPR)
Personal data is held securely and managed in line with UK GDPR and Data Protection legislation. Records are kept for clinical and legal purposes only and stored securely. You have the right to access your personal data upon request. Further details are available in the practice Privacy Notice.
8. Review and Ending Therapy
Therapy is an open-ended process unless otherwise agreed. Either the client or therapist may bring therapy to an end. Wherever possible, endings will be discussed and planned to allow for a considered and supportive conclusion.
9. Professional Standards
I am a qualified psychotherapist and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. I engage in regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development.
